Festivals and Events
Every season sees the towns around Peruzzo come alive with festivals and events, where you have can enjoy yourself and of course, eat.
In August there is the wonderful medieval festival of Roccatederighi, during which the whole village comes alive with light and colour while the many actors/musicians organize performances and concerts, and then there is the Donkey Palio, a parody of the more famous one of Siena.
Sassofortino organizes in August, the festival of Maccherone and then in October and November, the Chestnut Festival, dedicated to the fruit of the woods that surround the village.
In Roccastrada, in July, the Barnyard Festival, dedicated to wheat threshing, which ends with the storming of the haystack by all the children.
In Massa Marittima the Balestro del Girifalco (Crossbow) and the setting up of the Opera in the square, with the beautiful backdrop of the cathedral..
Then many local festivals, to taste local specialties in simplicity, the open-air concerts in the squares, in cellars and in the churches, performances in the theatre Rocce of Gavorrano or in the Roman amphitheater of Roselle.
In Rispescia, in August, there is Festambiente, a major international festival regarding nature and ecology, with conferences, markets, shows and important concerts.
For classical music's lovers there are the Amiata Piano Festival and the Morellino Classica Festival's concerts, for jazz's fans the Grey Cat Jazz Festival is organized.
